Progress Over Perfection

Over a year ago I felt inspired to launch my own digital marketing company to help people like me earn passive income online & to help small brands and creators really learn how to turn their digital footprint into a freedom-generator.

I’d spent 10 years in the corporate world as a digital marketing director, social media marketing director, and influencer marketing director…

And I was burnt out.

Even though I was in the middle of a career I was so proud of and had worked really hard for… something in me felt empty.

So, over a year ago, when I got the inspiration to step out on my own… I was honestly really excited.

I built an entire website, had 30-days worth of content ready to post, my email automations were set up…. And then I shelved the whole thing.

Because I was SCARED.

Fast forward a few months and I couldn’t shake the inspiration.

So.. what did I do? Did I finally activate everything I had prepped?

No. Because it “wasn’t good enough”.

Instead I started FROM SCRATCH AGAIN!!!

I rebranded & rebuilt the website. I completely abandoned my content calendar and erased the emails. Only to start from square zero all over again.

And then guess what happened!!!

I shelved the whole thing for another 6–8 months.

Until—once again—my mind, body and soul were crying, begging me for something more.

So, I blew off the dust and spent 2-3 months trying to make sure everything was PERFECT.

And although I didn’t scratch everything like before, I did rebrand, change a lot on my website, and shift a lot of content and emails.

Don’t get me wrong…

These were all good changes, but they weren’t make or break.

I was just stuck in a cycle of self-criticism & self-doubt that was keeping me focused making sure everything was perfect rather than actually moving me towards my goals.

And then I read something in a book called “The Mountain is You” and my perspective shifted.

The Mountain is You ; pg 40

👇🏾 If you don’t get started, you’ll never arrive.... 👇🏾

That kind of hurt my feelings 😩 But I sure needed to hear it. The fear of making a mistake or doing something imperfectly had kept me frozen in places I had no business staying.

I was letting great ideas die.
I was watching open doors close.

All because I knew I wouldn’t be perfect on day one—and I desperately wanted to be.

I didn’t have to be perfect, I just needed to move.

A lot of times we don’t give ourselves the grace to be evolving human beings.

When in reality, none of us have done life before.

EVERYONE IS NEW HERE.

So from one fellow new girl to another…

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

The business, the prototype, the song, the art piece, the product…

Whatever it is that you have been called to release into the world… it doesn’t have to be perfect the first time.

You can always edit, build, change, and grow.

“But if you never get started, you’ll never arrive.”

Social media can be difficult because so many lives look perfect. So many brands and businesses look perfect. It can feel overwhelming and intimidating to even think about getting started.

But when you focus on progress instead of perfection... starting gets a little easier. Because every step, every shift towards your vision is a win.

You’ve got this.

I’m cheering for you.

Xo,

Bri 🖤
